VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Join a Committee!

There are many ways you can help make TPSS a better co-op. While volunteering is not required, it is encouraged! Volunteering provides you with insight into the inner workings of the cooperative and the importance of your investment in the cooperative. Right now, TPSS is recruiting committee members for 2010. Most committees meet once a month. If you are interested in becoming more involved in the co-op, joining a committee is a great way to do so!

Volunteer opportunities are not limited to what is listed here. If you see a way to help TPSS with your skills, please don't hesitate to contact us. Unless a specific contact is listed, you may contact Outreach Coordinator Sherri Collins at outreach@tpss.coop.

There are three standing committees that are established by bylaws to meet essential functions of the co-op: Finance, Membership, and Nominating Committee.

Finance Committee - This is for those of you who know your numbers! Any accounting and/or finance skills are welcomed and appreciated. This committee is responsible for reviewing and analyzing the financial information that is to be presented to the Board and assuring that the financial information conveyed to the Board is sound and adequate.

If you’re interested in doing financial planning for potential future co-op expansion, reviewing financial statements, or figuring out how TPSS co-op compares financially with other food co-ops across the country, please consider joining the Finance Committee!

For questions or to join, please contact: finance.chair@tpss.coop

Membership and Education Committee - This committee aims to improve overall coop education, outreach, and engagement. If you’re interested in helping members and staff learn more about co-ops, recruiting new members (particularly from under-served communities), promoting member involvement in the co-op, developing better outreach tools (such as an improved website, listservs and/or newsletter), or just working to improve member-board-staff communication, this is the committee for you!

For questions or to join, please contact: membership.chair@tpss.coop

Nominations Committee - This committee is responsible for soliciting nominations for Board vacancies and overseeing elections. If you’re interested in helping the co-op recruit good board candidates and ensure that governance works to ensure effective member-owner control over co-op operations, please consider joining the nominations committee!
